Celtic Trails

Celtics Trails is one of the longest established walking holiday providers in the UK. They cater to walkers who expect extensive local knowledge and a high standard of personal service. Over 70% of clients come back to complete another walking holiday, with regular faces reaching their 6th, 10th and even 12th walk.

Walking holidays give you an incomparable opportunity to reconnect with nature, take in scenes of soul-stirring natural beauty and even get acquainted with local history. However, if you’ve never been on one before, you may be unsure of how to prepare. That’s why we’d like to use today’s blog to offer you some guidance on getting ready for a walking holiday. We’ve prepared a list of three activities that you should do before your holiday that will help you get the most out of it.

1. Invest in appropriate walking clothes and equipment

Before you set out on any long walk, you should ensure that you have hard-wearing, comfortable clothes and shoes that will protect you, that won’t irritate you and which will survive the long journey. We offer walking holidays in England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, so we know how changeable British weather can be and can also recommend that you choose clothing that will protect you from the elements. If you have chosen a slightly more challenging walk, you may also wish to invest in specialist gear, such as walking poles, just in case you run into any tricky terrain.

2. Engage in gentle exercises

We suggest that you practise gentle exercises (such as stretches) for a few weeks before embarking on a walking holiday. This will help keep your body limber and ensure that you feel comfortable throughout the duration of your walk. You don’t have to be unreasonably fit to tackle a walking holiday, but making sure your body’s fairly flexible and used to exercise will help you to enjoy it.

3. Practise walking in different weather conditions in your local area

Before setting out on a long walk in a new and beautiful area, you should practise by going on short walks locally. This will get you into the habit of walking. Even more importantly, it will give you a chance to get used to the different weather conditions you may encounter while undertaking a longer walk.

A walking holiday can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s important to prepare yourself properly before you embark on one. We offer a wide variety of walking holidays in the UK. Why not start preparing to take one today?
