Path Walkthrough

From Porth Penrhyn, the route passes through fields and woodlands before reaching Bethesda against the backdrop of Carneddau and Glyder ranges and the extensive Penrhyn quarry. Cross the Ogwen valley and over open moorland to Llanberis. The trail then meanders past old slate pits and spoil heaps to Waunfawr and along part of the North Wales Pilgrim’s Path up onto the moors below Mynydd Mawr before descending through striking slate workings to Nantlle. The route continues to Rhyd Ddu below the dramatic Nantlle Ridge, on to Beddgelert, with impressive views of coastline and mountains. Then to the narrow Aberglaslyn Pass and high into the Moelwyns along old drover’s roads to Croesor and through remote quarries to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llan Ffestiniog. The hidden gem of Cwm Cynfal gorge awaits and a sense of real wilderness before reaching Penmachno. Advance through forest tracks to Betws-y-Coed, past Miner’s Bridge and Swallow Falls to Capel Curig. Pass between Carnedd and Glyder Ranges to Llyn Ogwen and onwards to the U-shaped valley of Nant Ffrancon returning to Bethesda.

    Snowdonia Slate Trail Client Reviews

    4.5/5 based on 6 reviews
An epic walk through spectacular, varied, unique terrain, giving a vivid sense of North Wales, past and present. We always felt well supported and in excellent hands. After years of backpacking in remote landscapes, we wanted to explore new terrain in a more comfortable way. Snowdonia is famous and we wanted to see it - and it exceeded expectations! We feel mentally revived, intellectually enriched and trail hardened.

We felt we were in very good hands and could trust Celtic Trails with every step in the process from the first inquiry, payment and actual walking experience. The was never a doubt of being picked up or not finding our luggage at our accommodation which are always well chosen.
