Passport, Visa and Health Information

This information supports the passport, visa and health requirements referred to in our Booking Conditions and forms part of your contract with Celtic Trails. Requirements vary by nationality and may change at short notice. Approximate visa processing times are included below. Please ensure you review this information before confirming your booking.

Whether you are travelling from the UK to another country, visiting the UK for a walking holiday, or travelling between two overseas destinations, it is important to understand the entry requirements, visa rules and health formalities that may apply to your journey.

For UK-Based Walkers Travelling Abroad

Passport and visa requirements vary by destination. Many countries require passports to be valid for at least three to six months beyond your return date.

If you are travelling to countries within the Schengen Area (including most EU destinations), UK passport holders can usually stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. Your passport must also have been issued within the last 10 years and be valid for at least three months after your planned departure from the Schengen Area.

Visitors of certain nationalities may need a visa to enter some destinations. If a visa is required, standard processing times typically range from two to six weeks, although this can vary depending on the country and season.

Some destinations require an electronic travel authorisation in advance. In addition, a new system for travel to many European countries (ETIAS) is expected to be introduced in the near future.

Entry requirements can also include health guidance, vaccination rules or local regulations. For the most current information, please refer to official government travel advice.

For Guests Travelling to the United Kingdom

If you are visiting the UK for a walking holiday, your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. Some nationalities may require longer validity.

Depending on your nationality, you may need either a Standard Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The ETA is required for many visa-exempt travellers and must be obtained before travel.

Visa-exempt travellers, including those from countries such as Canada, do not need a visa but must ensure they have the correct travel authorisation in place before departure.

If you have a connection to the UK, such as being born in the UK or having a British parent, you may already be a British citizen. British citizens must travel using a UK passport and cannot apply for an ETA.

Entry requirements apply regardless of your route of travel. Travelling via another country does not remove the need to meet UK entry requirements.

To check whether you need a visa or ETA and how to apply, please refer to official UK government guidance.

For Travellers Heading to Other International Destinations

If you are travelling between two overseas countries for your walking holiday, passport validity rules, visa requirements and health formalities will depend on both your nationality and your destination.

Please check the travel advice issued by your own government for the most up to date and reliable information.

Health Requirements

Some countries may require proof of vaccination or have specific health formalities, particularly for certain regions or types of travel. The UK currently has no mandatory health requirements for entry.

Requirements can change at short notice, so please check the latest advice from your government and from the authorities of your destination.
