From there, your route joins an old trade route which once connected Cetinje with Kotor –even billiard tables were transported along this trail! Mount Vrmac is situated like a barrier between the innermost part of the Bay, Bay of Kotor and the outer section – the Bay of Tivat. Your walk begins in Kotor on the military zig-zag-trail named after the Austrian emperor Franz-Josef (in local language: Franjo Josip) before climbing up to the mighty fortress, Vrmac, built in 1892 and still beautifully preserved to this day. From here you follow the mountain ridge to the highest top of Vrmac, Sveti Ilija (765 m). The descent follows an old shepherd's trail down to the abandoned village of Gornji Stoliv, where you can visit the old church and relax with a coffee at the seaside promenade. You will then be transferred back to your accommodation in Kotor.
