Your journey begins in Bressanone, a vibrant and historic city, recognised as the oldest in the Tyrol. If you arrive early, take the opportunity to wander through its charming, colourful alleys and explore the frescoed rooms of the bishops' palace.

In the morning, a bus takes you to the Augustinian monastery of Novacella, renowned for its delicious white wine. From there, you follow dirt tracks and countryside paths through woods and vineyards to reach Velturno. Surrounded by chestnut trees, this town enjoys such a favourable climate that it was chosen as a summer retreat by numerous noble families over the centuries.

This gentle, panoramic walk across the Renon plateau takes you through forests and traditional Alpine meadows. Along the way, you’ll pass the picturesque Kematen Lake and the striking earth pyramids—cone-shaped formations created from moraine silt left behind by melting Ice Age glaciers. The walk concludes with a ride on the Renon train, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains as you return to Collalbo.

Today’s hike is straightforward and enjoyable: starting from Collalbo, you make your way to Castel Roncolo through orchards, forests, and cultivated fields, passing a countryside rich with castles, manor houses, and farms. At the end of your walk, you can catch a bus to Bolzano (it’s advisable to set off before 8 am to avoid missing the last bus, though walking all the way to the city is also an option). Bolzano is a vibrant town where Italian and Austrian cultures blend seamlessly, offering an array of artistic treasures to explore.

After a bus ride from Bolzano to Siusi, you take a cable car up to Compatsch, the starting point for an easy circular walk across Europe’s largest Alpine plateau. The route takes you past mountain huts and charming hamlets, offering stunning views of the jagged peaks of the Dolomites. The walk concludes back at Compatsch, where a cable car and bus ride return you to Bolzano.
